Year in Review #5: Semi hangs precariously off highway bridge in terrifying incident

Swift Current Municipal RCMP received a 911 call at approximately 6:27 a.m. this morning of a semi-truck that had crashed through the overpass guard rail on the Trans-Canada Highway.

Swift Current was buzzing with excitement as country music fans gathered for a highly anticipated concert by Canadian country band, The Washboard Union, at the annual Frontier Days Grandstand Concert.  

Above-average fall temperatures predicted by Environment Canada

As autumn begins to settle in, Saskatchewan residents can expect above-average temperatures in the following months. 

Terri Lang, a meteorologist with Environment and Climate Change Canada, shared her insight on the seasonal changes. 

“For September, October, and November, the fall forecast is for above-average temperatures and there's no real pattern indicated for precipitation,” she elaborated. 

Semi rollover on Trans-Canada Highway

The Trans-Canada Highway, northwest of Maple Creek, has been reduced to one-lane traffic due to a semi rollover.

Located 10 km east of the Alberta border, the Highway Hotline advises travellers to use caution and reduce their speed.

The eastbound lane will be reopened once the scene has been cleaned up.

Sip tea and change lives at Market Square 

The Sew Love Foundation, a remarkable initiative founded by Lori Peters, is set to grace Market Square in downtown Swift Current tomorrow from 9:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. 

The foundation, whose name plays on the act of sewing, is dedicated to sowing seeds of love by supporting education, small businesses, family housing, and emergency medical assistance in Rwanda and Kenya. 

Fall fun for all

As the days grow shorter and the summer breeze makes way for the crispness of fall, the Swift Current community is gearing up for the annual Citywide Connection event, marking the transition of seasons. 

Taking place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. this evening at the Stockade, Citywide Connection serves as the successor to the well-remembered Citywide Registration explained Brad Woods, with the City of Swift Current.
