Many motorists in the southwest may have adjusted their travel plans today due to the blast of wintery weather.
Jennie Moen was driving into Swift Current from Stewart Valley on Highway #4 this morning and details the driving conditions.
"Made it about ten clicks to the south and just run into a complete whiteout because obviously, the wind is coming from the west. We just couldn't see a thing. I was following the line on the right-hand side and a little bit scared to break and you too scared to go too fast and we met a semi with his flashers on and one truck with flashers on, so we found a safe place to turn around and came home."
David Horth, Director of Communications for the Ministry of Highways provides details on today's road conditions.
"Winter conditions pretty much throughout Swift Current area, all the highways leading into and out of Swift Current. I see there's some reduced visibility that appears to be caused mostly by the fact that wind is causing some drifting snow and there are some icy and slippery sections on the roads."
Driving conditions are expected to remain the same throughout the day as the winter weather continues through tomorrow.
Horth adds that motorists needing to head out on the roads today should make sure to check the Highway Hotline before hitting the road and be prepared to adjust their speed to match conditions on the roads as well as allocate some extra time to get to their destination.
