The Swift Current Museum was packed to the brim with local talent over the weekend as the Holiday Market took place.
Education and Program Coordinator at the Museum, Corla Rokochy, said that the event garnered a very positive response from the community.
“This market was very well attended by the public,” she stated. “A lot of people came right at the beginning because they were so excited to get there and see the vendors.”
In total, seven vendors came out to showcase their unique, handmade, items.
One of those vendors was Cartographer, Alex McPhee, who had the opportunity to see people’s reactions to his new map of Saskatchewan, in person, for the first time.
“I love watching people react to it,” he expressed. “I love seeing people come in and start looking for the little town they grew up in. I love watching farmers count out the grid roads to try and find their property.
“If I never got to show these to people in person, I would know a lot less about what people want to see and what they're going to use it for.”
This is the third year that the Swift Current Museum has held a Holiday Market, with Rokochy adding that she hopes to make it an annual event.
“We've really enjoyed the markets and what we like is to showcase local talent and to see the different and unique things that people can create here,” she explained. “We also have a lot of those same items year-round, in our gift shop. So, we try to support local artists and local businesses.
“Lots of people stop for Swift Current postcards, pins, magnets and when you have those artists that can come and be right in the museum for people to even come and just talk with and find out about their passion, it's really amazing. Then we get to carry them all year round and really brag up all the local people and the local talented market that we have.”
