The Calgary Police Traffic Section continues to investigate a fatal collision that occurred early this morning, causing the closure of southbound and northbound Deerfoot Trail between 32 Avenue N.E. and 16 Avenue N.E. Friday morning.
At approximately 3:15 a.m., police responded to reports of a serious two-vehicle collision that occurred in the southbound lanes of Deerfoot Trail near 32 Avenue N.E.
Northbound Deerfoot Trail and southbound Deerfoot Trail between 32 Avenue N.E. and 16 Avenue N.E. remained closed for several hours as officers investigated the circumstances that led to the collision. Both roadways have now opened.
It is believed a 2009 Ford F-150 pickup truck, operated by a 29-year-old man, was travelling northbound in the southbound lanes of Deerfoot Trail when it collided head-on with a vehicle travelling southbound. Sadly, the driver of the southbound travelling vehicle was declared deceased at the scene.
Alcohol and speed are considered to be factors in the collision. The operator of the pickup truck was taken into custody and charges are pending.
