After more than three decades of baking, Tracy Lafond has retired.

Lafond has spent the last 32 years working at the Redwater IGA as a baker.

"When I first got the job, it was February 5, 1990," Lafond said. "It's when they first opened the bakery of the IGA."

Lafond was the first baker they hired.

"I learnt from the ground up."

Despite not having any prior baking experience, Lafond took to the new job easily.

"I did take commercial cooking at NAIT."

Now almost 33 years since her first day, Lafond has retired. She also said she's not sure how she'll spend all of her free time.

"Right now, I haven't really thought about it."

When she's not baking, Lafond is spending time with her husband and three children, as well as pursuing her crafting hobbies through her 'sock gnomes'.

She said her favourite part of the job was the customers.

"Obviously it wasn't bad because I stayed there for 32 years," Lafond laughed.
