The Fort Saskatchewan Food Bank is seeing a slight rise in donations this holiday season.

North Central Co-op reported that 1,100 'Goodbuy to Hunger' bags were sold which helped them raise about $11,186 in donations. Co-op donated a dollar for each bag sold, adding an additional $1100 to that total.

"We were really excited to see those totals," said Kassandra Gartner, the executive director of the food bank. "We were a little nervous, we knew that this was a different year and that donations were generally down, but we have collected a comparable amount from last year from our time at Co-op."

"The amount collected was slightly higher than last year."

On top of till donations, the food bank also had their volunteers at North Central Co-op from November 15 to 30 collecting donations as well as the Community Christmas event helping out last Tuesday (Nov. 29).

"Food donations received were less than previous years, but just over $20,000 was donated at the Food Bank table during our time at Co-op," said Gartner. "We are on our way to hitting our goal of $85,000 raised!"

Donations can still be made to their Christmas campaign by visiting their website or visiting their location on 88 Avenue.

Those who want to receive holiday food and toy hampers can still apply until December 12. Simply call them at 780-998-4099 to apply.

The food bank is planning to deliver the hampers on December 17.
