Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park has transformed into a winter wonderland as snow coats the lush forest.

Along with the snow also comes a wide variety of activities, that are only available this time of year, explained Robin Campese, Executive Director of Visitor Experience.

“Starting in January, we'll have guided snowshoe hikes, astronomy walks, for the resort guests, we'll actually have some indoor movies on select dates so that should be really exciting,” she elaborated. “Then we're opening up the sauna and hot tub that is usually run only in the summer, but we're going to try to make the park even more of a destination. So, there'll be an indoor dry sauna and hot tub on weekends through until mid-March, which is really awesome.”

One very popular event running in Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park is ‘Trim Your Trees,’ which allows visitors to cut down and take home their own Christmas tree.

The program, which will be running until December 23, gives visitors a unique experience while helping to preserve the park.

Those who would like to participate can drop by the park administration office for a tree permit and directions to the designated chopping area.

Campese added that there are several different options for how you can enjoy the park during winter.

“There's a lot of ways that you can actually come and stay in the park as well,” she explained. “We are running a winter camping program if you are at all adventurous. We also have our Camp-Easy yurts at Cypress Hills, and these ones are unique in the sense that they have a wood burning stove, so, that will keep you nice and warm if you choose that option. And then we also have The Resort, which is a great place to stay.”

Programming is available free of charge for any visitor with their park entry permit.

An annual permit can be purchased at this time for only 40 dollars, while day passes can be purchased for ten dollars.
