A local real estate firm has announced its plans to build a new shopping center in Fort Saskatchewan.

Opulence Management Corp. hosted a launch party on Wednesday (Dec. 7) where they pitched Fort Saskatchewan Common, a 20-acre, $270-million shopping center.

Although Opulence can't disclose the stores that will be coming to the shopping center, firm partner Ravi Prakash says that they will include restaurants, retail, and even a large-scale grocery store.

"The idea is to bring something unique. We don't want to be one of the ordinary shopping complexes where you have one cannabis store, one liquor store, and one business store. We don't want to do that," Prakash said. "We're very particular to what we want to say yes to. That is our vision."

As for what this new complex will bring to the community of Fort Saskatchewan, Prakash said it's simple -- jobs.

"I'm estimating that there will be at least 1200 to 1500 new jobs in Fort Saskatchewan," Prakash said.

With the scope and size of the project, Prakash said the complex is expected to be completed in four to five years.

"It is going to be built in phases. Phase one startsĀ April of next year."

The shopping center would be built on the north side of Highway 21, across the highway from Home Depot.
