Work continues towards the building of a new inclusive playground as discussed at this week's city council meeting on Monday evening.
Jim Jones, General Manager for Community Services with the city of Swift Current provided an update on the work already done.
"What we've done is all the surfacing, levelling and stuff has been completed. We have put the water lines in and the electrical lines in to where the bathrooms are going. So, the contractor for the bathrooms, they have to have it done by March 31st. And now we actually have the contract out for the play surface, when we are going to be able to get that will depend on what Spring turns out like."
To meet the standards of an inclusive playground, a rubber "poured in place" surface is required.
Prairie Rubber Paving, of Imperial Saskatchewan was the only supplier to submit a proposal for the project and has been awarded the contract.
Jones says the company has a vast amount of experience.
"The company from Imperial has done all of the Canadian Tire Jumpstart inclusive playgrounds that they've done in Western Canada. So, they are a very good contractor. The city of PA uses them exclusively for the placing of play surfaces as well. In all the references they provided, everyone said they did a very good job."
In addition, Jones adds that they are lucky to have them and says that they feel that based on the footprint needed done, it's a fair price.
The new Inclusive Playground, park play surface was included in the 2022 Capital Budget in the amount of $242, 410.
Although it is hard to predict an exact date of completion for the playground, it's anticipated completion date is set for mid 2023.
