Whether it's flowers and cookies or board games and jewelry, there's a business downtown for everything.

Businesses all over downtown Fort Saskatchewan are staying open later to help bring people to the area.

"People keep talking about that they want to be able to shop downtown," said Erin Brush Duncan, economic development officer with The City of Fort Saskatchewan. "When you're working your standard hours it's kind of hard for people to come and find those open businesses."

To help accommodate for this, several businesses have pledged to keep their doors open until 7 p.m. on Thursdays until December 22.

"I think it's great that more people are able to shop local and to rediscover that magic of window shopping, and shopping at the places your neighbors own."

Here are the businesses that participating:

  • Daisy a Day
  • Country Chic Custom Designs
  • The Barn Door
  • The Fort Gaming & Collectibles
  • The Space: Yoga, Wellness, Meditation
  • Caught in the Cookie Jar
  • Kountry Knits
  • Legacy Jewellers
  • Gold and Diamond Boutique
  • Urban Studio
  • 100th Ave. Convenience Store

These businesses staying open is part of the city's downtown action plan. Other initiatives include the downtown beautification project, which brought two murals to downtown Fort Saskatchewan during the summer.
