The Ministry of Transportation is reporting that one lane of Highway 17 has reopened near Vermilion Bay after a collision earlier this morning.

The collision was reported to police shortly before 12 p.m., just west of Vermilion Bay, which shut down the TransCanada at the Highway 71 and Highway 105 Junction.

Logging truck driver Troy Mineault was one of the many residents caught in the highway's lineup. He says the incident involved two tractor-trailer units, with one of the vehicles driving through the trailer of the second.

"It's scary to drive these roads twice a day," said Mineault. "Even in the summer, you are taking your life into your own hands. I [have] been driving logging trucks for 27 years and have never seen the crazy accidents like I have in the past few years."

He adds that one of the drivers suffered some injuries and needed medical attention.

Traffic control remains in place and drivers are asked to use extreme caution in the area.
