Extreme cold settles in

An extreme cold warning has been issued for the southwest area by Environment Canada.

Residents can expect extremely cold wind chill values of minus 40 overnight.

The extreme cold will continue throughout the week during the mornings and overnight.

The period of extreme cold is expected to moderate by the weekend.

Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter.

It is important to cover up and limit time outdoors. Frostbite can develop within minutes on exposed skin, especially with wind chill.
