Twinkling lights and holiday decorations can be seen dawning the streets of Swift Current as residents get in the holiday spirit.
The dazzling displays were encouraged by the City and Canadian Tire’s Deck the House competition, which residents were able to enter until December 15.
Mayor, Al Bridal, said that although there were a lot of stunning decorations, the first-place winner stood out to him significantly.
“My favorite was the first place one, Jessica Perrault, over on 267 sixth,” he stated. “It just had gobs of decorations and lights. I mean, they're hanging from the trees, they're on the rooftop, they're up the chimney and they're in the front yard. That was my favorite, you almost needed a set of sunglasses to look at it there's so many lights over there.”
This year, seven categories were awarded; first, second, and third place, best theme, best music and light show, best new entry, and best commercial entry.
Bridal added that this year the winners were chosen out of almost 20 houses that were submitted into the contest, though many other houses are sporting festive decorations.
“I believe there's 19 this year,” he stated. “We passed some really nice houses that were all decked out, but hadn't put their name in. There are some really nice homes all around Swift Current that we went ‘Oh, I wonder why they didn't put their name into this contest,’ but they didn’t. But, there are some really nice, well-decorated houses all across Swift Current.”
Winners of the contest were awarded credit for their utilities ranging from one hundred to three hundred dollars as well as a gift card from Canadian Tire.
