Airdrie has been placed under a fog advisory by Environment and Climate Change Canada.
According to Environment Canada, areas of dense fog have developed in areas north and east of the Calgary metro area with some drizzle also present in these fog patches, which could freeze on surfaces that remain below zero. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas.
"If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance."
While the main precipitation band moved out of Calgary, some freezing rain might form around noon near the Foothills and affect the region.
"Even if air temperatures are above zero, some surfaces can still be cold enough for rain to freeze," Environment Canada stated.
Surfaces like highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Poor weather conditions may contribute to transportation delays.
The freezing rain ended on Tuesday afternoon, however, the fog advisory is in effect for:
- Mountain View Co. near Carstairs and Stirlingville
- Mountain View Co. near Cremona and Water Valley
- Mountain View Co. near Olds and Didsbury
- Mountain View Co. near Sundre
- Rocky View Co. near Airdrie and Crossfield
- Rocky View Co. near Bottrel and Madden
- Rocky View Co. near Cochrane
Highway conditions south of Airdrie on the QEII highway are bare and wet, however, visibility remains poor with freezing rain, rain, and fog being reported. Heading Northbound, conditions on the QEII also remain icy, with reports of black ice in some areas, though visibility is fair.
The fog and drizzle will dissipate by later this evening.
