It's been quite the year in Fort Saskatchewan!
Mayor Gale Katchur talked about some local highlights from throughout 2022.
Katchur said that one of the biggest highlights was the completed construction of the Highway 15 bridge.
Construction began in August 2019 as part of the provincial government's $789.4-million investment into roads and bridges around Alberta.
The bridge partially opened in mid-September before fully opening in early October.
"I haven't seen that much excitement in the community in a long time," Katchur said.
To Katchur, her favourite part of the year was people getting back out in public.
This year saw the return of several annual events that had been otherwise thwarted by COVID-19.
The Family Festival, Trunk or Treat, and the Canada Day Parade are just some of the events that have returned to form this year.
As for 2023, Katchur says she's most excited about the pedestrian bridge being built underneath Highway 15.
"That's going to be very exciting".
The pedestrian bridge is expected to start construction again in the spring.
Overall, it was a big year for Fort Saskatchewan, and Katchur says she's excited about what the future holds.
"Our community continues to grow and provide excellent quality of life for our citizens, and that's what makes our city so desirable to live in."
