In collaboration with Save on Foods and the Airdrie Techmation Thunder, we are launching a new project called the Save on Foods Thursday Thunder Player of the Week.
And this week, the Thursday Thunder Player of the Week is 21-year-old Jacob Cathcart.
Cathcart, who is originally from Cochrane, has been playing for the Airdrie Techmation Thunder for four years, with this being his last season of hockey.
So far this season, Cathcart, a right winger, has 22 points in 20 games played 13 goals and nine assists.
Cathcart talked about how his game has changed while playing with the Thunder.
"The maturity goes up with age, and you kind of just become a smarter player, I think, over time."
One of the largest differences since joining the Thunder four years ago is the difference in physicality, according to Cathcart.
Before joining the Thunder, Cathcart played for the Airdrie CFR Chemicals Midget AAA Bisons.
With the season slowly nearing an end, he does have some goals in sight.
"For myself, personally, I'm hoping to finish out strong and keep playing well, and for the team, I think we're looking to do some real damage in playoffs here, which is exciting. I think we're all excited to show our division what we can do I think with the right preparation and a full squad going here into playoffs, I think we're gonna do really well "
Cathcart currently attends the University of Calgary for business.
The Thunder's next game is at home at the Ron Ebbesen Arena against the Sylvan Lake Wranglers at 8 p.m Friday.
