Another Fort Saskatchewan World Junior gold medalist is changing WHL teams.
On Sunday (Jan. 8) night, the Everett Silvertips traded Olen Zellweger to the Kamloops Blazers in exchange for a large return that included four players and 10 draft picks.
The full trade breaks down as such:
- Kamloops Blazers receive: Olen Zellweger and Ryan Hofer
- Everett Silvertips receive: Drew Englot, Kaden Hammell, Rylan Pearce, Jack Bakker, four 1st round draft picks, two 2nd round draft picks, a 3rd round draft pick, a 4th round pick, a 5th round pick, and a 6th round pick
This comes just a few days before Tuesday's WHL trade deadline.
This will end Zellweger's five-season tenure with the Silvertips where he put up 131 points in 148 games. In 23 games with Everett this season, Zellweger has 28 points
He will join a Blazers team that has high aspirations to win the Memorial Cup. At the time of the trade, the Blazers are third in the Western Conference with 50 points and a 22-8-6 record.
The Blazers' next game is this Wednesday against the Vancouver Giants but it is unknown if that will be Zellweger's debut. The Blazers do play the Silvertips on Friday.
