This week’s Thursday Thunder player is Dace Carlson; number 13, the captain of the Airdrie Techmation Thunder.
Carlson is very happy with the season so far and says they’ve got a really good group of players.
“I think it's been good. I hate talking personally, more of a collective guy. I think we've got a really good group of guys and I'm personally very happy with them and very happy with what's been going on.”
Carlson was born and raised in Airdrie and according to him, he has been skating since before he could walk. In the past, Carlson has played for many teams.
“I played at the Edge Academy and Bantam and then I moved on to the AC Avalanche out of Cochrane then to the Bisons in Airdrie and then out to Nanaimo in the VIHL.”
Carlson is unsure about what he wants to do after the season but says he’s thinking about playing for the senior AA out by Nanton.
The Thunder’s general manager Shaun Guest said that Carlson is player of the week for his efforts on and off the ice.
“Dace is our captain this year and set an example in both games this weekend. Flat out...he was flying! Dace is a get in your face two way forward and he created a lot of opportunities for the team in both games.”
According to Carlson, when he is not playing for Airdrie he gets up early and works at McKee Homes digging out basements; he says it takes a lot of planning and organization and that he enjoys getting up early to attack the day.
So far this season, Carlson has put up 13 points, four goals and nine assists.
The Thunder's next game is Friday against the High River Flyers.
