Throughout November, Hot Shots Films and Factory Films Studio were filming their first Albertan feature movie just outside Fort Saskatchewan.

Red Pine City stars Academy Award nominee Eric Roberts, known for his roles in The Dark Knight, The Expendables, and Doctor Who. He is also the brother of Julia Roberts.

Other stars include Rick Ravenello (General Hospital, Lethal Weapon, Weeds) and Elise Muller (The Young and the Restless, Parenthood).

The film is about a country singer and reluctant enforcer who work together to take out a local mobster.

Michael Patrick Lilly, chief creative officer for Factory Films Studio, says that six out of their 17-day shoot were in the Fort Saskatchewan area.

"We were at the Elk Island Retreat," Lilly said. "We actually got caught with the really cold weather. It was tough, man."

Lilly said they used geodomes to keep warm during the cold shoots.

Between shooting days, the cast and crew would visit Fort Saskatchewan.

"We loved the Fort. Everyone was really accommodating," Lilly said. "We had no issues with any of the locations. It was great."

Red Pine City finished filming in November. Right now, they're going through editing with an expected release date in the fall.

"We have an output deal with Cineplex, so there's a pretty good chance that we'll end up there, but there could be some smaller theatres we may take it to as well."

Lilly also said that they'll be considering coming back to Fort Saskatchewan for their future films.
