A Strathcona County woman has been charged with sexual abuse of a toddler after a tip from the FBI.

Police caught wind of the abuse after the arrest of Brian Davis in Yuba City, California. After his arrest, investigators discovered that he was speaking to a woman somewhere in the Edmonton area.

According to ALERT's Internet Child Exploitation unit, the chat logs between Davis and the woman showed sexual abuse of the woman's child.

After the FBI told ALERT about the situation, police tracked down the account and arrested a 35-year-old Strathcona County woman. Her name has not been released to protect the identity of her child.

The unnamed woman has been charged with:

  • Sexual exploitation
  • Sexual interference
  • Arrangement to commit a sexual offence against a child
  • Making child pornography
  • Distribution of child pornography
  • Accessing child pornography
  • Possession of child pornography

The mother no longer has custody of the child — she has a court date later this month.

The toddler's father has been cooperating with authorities and claims to have not known of the abuse.
