Gymnasts from Fort Saskatchewan had a great start to their 2023 season.

Girls from Fort Gymnastics Club travelled to Red Deer over the weekend to take part in the Exelta Cup.

"We had our level one and two [gymnasts] and they get adjudicated, so the medals they get is based off their scores," said Paige Kellington, a coach with the club. "We [also] had our level three and fours who all compete against each other."

Kellington says they had athletes between the ages of 8 and 12 compete at the event.

Helena Buhler and Zoey Dechaine both took home gold medals in the level two categories. Emily Nuthack got silver in level two as well.

For the level three and four categories, Addilla Pelton came in 5th place in the vault event. Hailey Dalida finished 6th in the floor event.

Trenna Wright placed 7th in beam, 6th in vault, and 6th in all-around.

Lexi Chadbourn captured fourth place in several categories including beam, all-around, and on-floor.

Lastly, Hayden Chadbourn finished 5th on floor, 7th in all-around, and 7th on bars.

Kellington says it was an awesome way to kick off the season.

"I am really proud of all our girls who competed."

The boys at the club will get a chance to compete later this month at the Copeland Classic in Spruce Grove.

People interested in getting their kids involved with gymnastics should be on the lookout for registration opening up in the next few weeks for spring classes.

They also host drop-ins every Friday morning.
