Netflix recently announced that they would be rolling out new features in Canada to bring the hammer down on password sharing.

The streaming service stated in a press release on Wednesday that the changes will give users more control over their information.

One of the changes will include setting a primary location for a Netflix account.

The streaming service stated in a press release on Wednesday, that they will help individuals set up this feature, “ensuring that anyone who lives in their household can use their Netflix account.”

The statement added that there has been recent confusion about when and how to share your account.

“We value our members and recognize that they have many entertainment choices. A Netflix account is intended for one household and members can choose from a range of plans with different features”

The updated plans available are as follows:

For $5.99 a month, individuals can get an ad-supported plan that can be used by one person on one device in one location.

The same plan without ads will cost $9.99 a month.

For $16.99 a month, users can purchase the standard plan, which allows a user to watch on two devices at the same time if they are in the same physical location.

To access the account in a different location, users can add an extra user for $7.99 a month.

The premium plan allows four users to watch at once, for $20.99 a month, however, they will also have an extra $7.99 fee for every additional user in a new location, with a limit of two.

The updated plans have not received positive feedback with many users raising concerns.

Many of the concerns revolve around what Netflix has classified as a ‘household’ such as children splitting their time between parents, students at university, or couples that don’t reside together.

As a result, many long-term users of Netflix are considering boycotting the streaming service.

“Today, over 100 million households are sharing accounts — impacting our ability to invest in great new TV and films,” the statement added.
