A 48-year-old resident of Thorhild has been charged with the attempted murder of an RCMP officer.

Police have issued an update after a member of the Redwater RCMP was seriously injured during a call in Thorhild earlier this week. 

During the call, the officer was attacked with a knife and received serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Cindy Chelsberg, a 48-year-old resident of the home, has been taken into custody.

Chelsberg has been charged with:

  • Attempted murder
  • Aggravated Assault of a Peace Officer
  • Aggravated Assault
  • Obstruction
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Chelsberg was remanded in custody before her court date on Thursday (Feb. 9).

The 33-year-old officer was airlifted to hospital by STARS Air Ambulance, where he remains in stable condition.

Officers from RCMP’s Eastern Alberta District and Northern General Investigative Sections have taken over the investigation. No further updates will be provided.
