Categories

Sherwood Park is home to two of the finest young curling teams in the country.

Team Plett and Team Davies were both in Ontario over the weekend taking part in the Canadian U18 Championships, where they both won the title.

"Both teams went undefeated throughout the entire event," said Heather Nedohin, the manager of the Sherwood Park Curling Club.

That undefeated streak included a torrid 6-0 run in the round-robin rounds that continued into the qualifiers and, eventually, into the championship game.

Both teams were representing Alberta at the tournament.

Team Davies was playing in the boy's category and faced Nova Scotia in the final, to which they cruised to a 9-2 victory. The team consists of lead Lucas Sawiak, second Terren Algot, third Benjamin Kiist, fourth Zachary Davies, and Logan Thomas.

Team Plett took home the girl's championship, defeating New Brunswick 10-1 in the final. The veteran team is led by skip Myla Plett, third Alyssa Nedohin, second Chloe Fediuk, lead Allie Iskiw.

"It was so great," said Alyssa Nedohin, who played for Team Plett. "It's an experience I may never get again."

This is the first time winning the championship for Team Davies while Team Plett repeated as champions after winning the tournament in 2022.

It will be a quick turnaround for the girls as they will be heading to PEI to take part in the Canada Winter games later this week.

"It was a great experience," said Nedohin. "Hopefully we can do good in the next one!"
