Second Chance! Animal Rescue Society (SCARS) has been pretty busy at their newest location.

Back in October, SCARS opened its newest rescue facility in Morinville. Since opening, they say that they're already reaching capacity.

"Every single day the demand for intake is something I've never seen before," said Amanda Annetts, intake coordinator with SCARS. "We have over 40 animals in the facility as we speak."

Although the location is at full capacity, Annetts said most rescues are adopted in 15 to 30 days, but there have been some long-term residents.

"We have a lovely gentleman named Chucky. He's been around since day one," Annetts said. "He is looking for an acreage home with another female dog as a companion."

Currently, SCARS has five staff members at their Morinville location, but they also rely heavily on volunteers.

"Every week we have five to ten volunteers that come through the doors to help the staff members, which is a huge help. We couldn't do it without them."

SCARS is hosting an online orientation next Wednesday (Feb. 22) at 6 p.m. for those interested in learning what SCARS is about. Other ways to help can be found on their website.
