Fort High is beyond excited to be welcoming prospective students to an in-person open house.

The open house will be taking place at the school on Thursday (Feb. 16) night. This will be the first in-person open house at the school since 2020.

"We've had two years in a row of the online open house, which is very difficult because we can show you pictures and talk about programming and flowcharts, but let's face it, that's a little boring," said Curtis Starko, the principal at Fort High.

"This time we are going to cut down on the presentations and get more of an experience."

The event will welcome students from local junior highs to come into the school and complete a set of tasks that will take them to all the different areas that Fort High has to offer.

"We'll give them 16 areas in the school we want them to see," said Starko. "They will go to some areas of your math, science, social, and language arts because you want them to meet some teachers, but more importantly they are going to start hitting on some of our options that are very unique."

Fort High is home to the Shell Skills Centre, an area of the school where students can hone their skills and explore their interests in electro-technologies and virtual welding.

The school also offers other unique option courses such as communication technology, commercial foods, construction technologies, and cosmetology.

"There are lot of areas that we have at Fort High that make us very unique," said Starko. "Considering the number of options that we have, I'd put us in the territory of Salisbury Composite and Bev Facey for the amount that we do offer."

"I think a lot of students don't really know the amount of technology and different choices that are at Fort High and that's the whole point of what we are trying to do [at the open house]."

This won't just be an event for students, but for parents as well.

"It's getting the parents in the community back in and seeing what we have to offer."

The open house will take place between 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
