It's looking like we are in for some up-and-down weather this Family Day long weekend.

According to Environment Canada meteorologist Kyle Fougere, the weekend will have a warm start.

"We are having temperatures that are a little bit above normal, which is kind of nice here in February," said Fougere. "Typically, this time of year we see a high of  -3 C, and a low of -12 C."

The forecast expects daytime highs in the positives on Saturday and Sunday.

"We're forecasting temperatures between one and two degrees," said Fougere. "We are expecting it to be a little cloudy with the chance of flurries, especially on Saturday."

Throughout the weekend there is expected to be somewhere between five and ten centimetres of snow.

"If anyone has travel plans for the long weekend, just be aware that there could be some poor travel conditions in the area, especially if you're heading north of Fort Saskatchewan."

As for Family Day on Monday, temperatures are looking to return to the negatives with a daytime high of -8 C.
