The 2023 Canada Winter Games gets rolling this weekend! 

The national event will take place in P.E.I this year with athletes coming from all across the country to compete in their respective sports. 

Our region is well-represented with 17 local athletes and two coaches competing at the games. 

Here is a complete look at all the local athletes to keep an eye on: 

Coaches: 

  • Cyde Hammer, figure skating coach (Fort Saskatchewan) 
  • Brent MacDonald, men's curling coach (Sturgeon County)

  • Citrine Boychuk, freestyle skiing (Sherwood Park) 
  • Haley Trudeau, women's hockey (Sherwood Park) 
  • Jaxon Hiebert, men's curling (Sherwood Park) 
  • Kaeli Woodliffe, ringette (Sherwood Park) 
  • Reed De'Aeth, wheelchair basketball (Sherwood Park)

The opening ceremonies are set to get underway on Saturday (Feb. 18) with many of the sports starting on Sunday (Feb. 19).

The event will run until March 5.
