With snow continuing to fall Monday evening into Tuesday morning, road conditions may deteriorate rapidly as the evening progresses.

According to Environment and Climate Change Canada, the periods of light snow may change this evening to much heavier flurries, with anywhere from 10 to 15 cm predicted to fall.

However, thus far, the QEII towards Calgary limits is reported to be wet but not slippery, but with fair visibility.

Highway 2A approaching Crossfield and heading further North is wet and there are reports of slippery portions and icy sections, with a buildup of shoulder ice and snow.

One motorist who was travelling from Edmonton to Airdrie noted that road conditions until Red Deer were fair, while there is blowing snow and wet roads on the stretch of highway from Red Deer to Airdrie.

With wind gusts expected to pick up to 40 km/h this evening, there is the possibility of blowing and drifting snow on highways, hence motorists are asked to drive in winter conditions. Drivers are also reminded to keep their low beams on, rather than switching to high beams as low beams are much more effective in fog or heavy snow conditions.

While the snow is expected to taper off later this week, frigid temperatures are expected to start as soon as Tuesday and continue for much of the week. Thursday night may bring the coldest temperature with a predicted minus 35 degrees in the evening.
