Thousands in Fort Saskatchewan are clad in pink for Pink Shirt Day.
Pink Shirt Day, or Anti-Bullying Day, is an annual initiative where people don pink shirts to stand against bullying.
Krystal Bailey-Thurn with BGC Fort Saskatchewan says that wearing pink shirts isn't all they do. They also participate in youth family support programs and even random acts of kindness.
"It's a bigger statement when more can come together than just one to bring awareness to bullying," Bailey-Thurn said. "It's nice that all the kids are able to have those conversations with each other."
Usually, the BGC marches to the North Central Co-op Food Store for a rally, but with the extreme cold, they'll be taking a bus.
"Once we all arrive at Co-op, there are youth presentations from kids," Bailey-Thurn said. "One youth is doing a little bit of history about Pink Shirt Day, and then we have the winner of the t-shirt design contest talking about kindness and encouragement."
Pink Shirt Day started in Canada in 2007.
