The town of Morinville proposed a new traffic safety bylaw in their Valentine's Day council meeting.

Morinville may see a change in its speed limits in the coming months.

This speed limit change is one of several proposed in the new traffic safety bylaw during the town's council meeting last Tuesday (Feb. 14).

The change would see the town's residential speed limit of 50 km/h reduced to 40 km/h. This change would apply to all roads except 100 Avenue, 100 Street, and Cardiff Road.

Costs to develop the plan and replace all street signs would total $17,500.

This new bylaw is meant to replace the current traffic safety bylaw, which was enacted in early 2013.

Other changes proposed in the bylaw include requiring youth to wear helmets for skateboards and scooters, and new hours for school and playground zones.
