The Swift Current Broncos are shaking things up for their home game against the Moose Jaw Warriors this Saturday.
Executive Vice President of Business Operations for the Broncos, Nathan MacDonald, explained that the Broncos will be re-branding for one night only as a way to connect with the surrounding community.
MacDonald added that the re-brand to the Lake Diefenbaker Slough Sharks was chosen based on votes from fans.
“We put a question out to the fans to find out what their favourite thing about southwest Saskatchewan was,” he elaborated. “We took those responses and kind of came up with some team names and then put those out there for a fan vote. We got a great response on all of that, and the Lake Diefenbaker Slough Sharks was the dominant winner.”
The rebrand will feature custom Slough Shark jerseys that individuals can bid on, here, until February 27 at 8:00 p.m.
He added that all merchandise for the re-brand sold out in record time
“We had more merchandise than we've ever had for a theme night like this, and we blew through it in about five hours,” he stated. “So, we're working really hard to get a whole bunch more in because obviously the fans are interested in it. So, we're working to bring a little bit more of that merchandise back.”
The custom designs were brought to life by Bronco alumni, Taylor Vause, who played in Swift Current from 2007/08 until 2011/12.
