The snowfall on Tuesday morning is causing icy conditions on major roadways in and around the Airdrie area. Highways in the area are partly covered in snow, with reports of blowing snow causing poor visibility. Motorists are asked to be extremely cautious and watch for snowplows in the area.
Both the Innisfail and Airdrie Rural RCMP are advising of poor driving conditions on the QEII from Airdrie to Red Deer.
"RCMP have responded to several collisions along this Highway. Travel is not recommended at this time."
Earlier in the day there was a multi-vehicle collision on Southbound Stoney Trail after McKnight Blvd NE, which shut down all southbound lanes. However, the roads are now open, though motorists are asked to watch out for crews which remain on the scene for vehicle recovery. Motorists should expect delays.
The QEII heading towards Calgary city limits is reported to have reduced visibility. While road conditions are fair, there is shoulder ice and snow buildup.
Motorists heading North of Airdrie on the QEII, north of Junction Highway 2A (South of Bowden) reporting foggy conditions with poor visibility.
Airdrie's weather forecast has predicted anywhere from 5 to 10 cm of snow today, with snow continuing until the late evening.
