The St. Andre Bessette Cardinals senior girls team took home gold in the division four city finals.

Their gold-winning game was a 57-45 win against Maurice-Lavallée at Sturgeon Composite High School on Saturday (Mar. 4) morning.

Head coach Brooklyne Chase said that she's proud of her girls this season.

"We came out really strong," said Chase. "It got close a little bit throughout. At one point we were only up by two."

Leslie Katerenchuk sealed the win with four points from the foul line at the end of the game.

Juliana Morallo led the way for the Cardinals with 21 points.

"I've never been a part of a team that's been this close in terms of friendships outside of the game, and that really showed in the game itself," said Chase. "They really just were a team, and I'm proud of who they are as people."

Despite the undefeated season, the Cardinals won't be heading to provincials.

"It just didn't end up panning out, so this is kind of it. This is our last game as a team, and we get to embrace it and enjoy the moment. We'll do our windup party and end on a high note."

The Cardinals finished 9-0 in league play before topping Millwoods Christian and Fort Saskatchewan High School in the playoffs.
