A Sherwood Park actor will be among the brightest stars in Hollywood.

18-year-old Kate Hallett will be at the Oscars after starring as 'Autje' in the Oscar-nominated film 'Women Talking' directed by Sarah Polley.

The film, which also features Rooney Mara, Claire Foy, Jessie Buckley, and Frances McDormand follows the story of a group of women in a Manitoba Mennonite colony living in Bolivia who have to grapple with the disturbing truth of some of the colony's men.

The film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture and Academy Award for Best Writing (Adapted Screenplay).

This marks Hallett's debut as a professional actor and one in which she played a significant role. Though she isn't listed as one of the featured actors, Hallett serves as the film's narrator.

The bulk of the movie's filming took place in 2021 when Hallett was 16.

Before this experience, Hallett honed her craft in productions at Bev Facey High School and the Citadel Theatre in Edmonton.

The Oscars air on Sunday (Mar. 12).
