The Ardrossan senior girls' basketball team has had a season to remember.

After going undefeated throughout the regular season, the team took home the Metro Athletics division three championship on Saturday (Mar. 4).

Ardrossan met Austin O'Brien in the championship.

"It was a super exciting game," said Brandin St. Peter, the Ardrossan head coach. "It was back-and-forth right up to the final seconds."

The game was actually tied with less than five seconds to go in regulation before Ardrossan's Sarah Nystrom made a spectacular lay-up with just 2.7 seconds on the clock to win the championship by a score of 60-58.

"It was super exciting and an exciting way to finish out the season."

Hailey Yorke led the team with 20 points on the night; Nystrom netted 14.

St. Peter is happy to see the team rewarded.

"It is a super special group of girls. Just to see their hard work pay off as it did that day was awesome."

"To get the icing on the cake at the end was awesome."

They didn't get long to revel in the victory. On Monday (Mar. 6) they played in their first provincial qualifier, defeating St. Albert 66-40.

They will play again on Tuesday (Mar. 7) against Sturgeon.
