Local RCMP says that a drunk driver partially blocked a highway near Redwater last month.
On February 28 just after 1 a.m., Redwater police say they were informed by Morinville RCMP about a complaint about a possible impaired driver on Highway 28.
The complaint described that a truck had almost driven into the ditch on several occasions and was seen drifting into oncoming traffic.
An officer was sent to patrol the highway and eventually discovered a blue Chevrolet Silverado. The officer attempted a traffic stop, which was unsuccessful. They did not pursue the vehicle due to public safety reasons.
The officer continued patrols and eventually relocated the truck, which was in a ditch and partially blocking the northbound lane of the highway.
When police approached the vehicle they discovered a man passed out in the driver's seat. The truck's engine remained on, and the vehicle was still in drive.
The man was removed from the vehicle and arrested. Breath samples taken at the Redwater RCMP detachment showed that the man was over the legal limit.
As a result, the man was charged with the following:
- Operation of a vehicle while impaired by alcohol.
- Flight from police.
- Operation of a vehicle while over the legal limit.
The identity of the driver was not released.
