The RCMP has given an update on what happened in Ardrossan on Sunday (Mar. 12) morning.

Just after 8 a.m. that morning the RCMP sent out a release about a heavy police presence and for people to avoid the area while police responded to an incident.

About an hour later, an update was released saying the incident had been resolved.

Corporal Troy Savinkoff says police were responding to reports of a suspected armed break-and-enter at a residence.

"The complainant had identified that they felt that the suspect had a long-barreled firearm on them," said Savinkoff. "RCMP attended the area, we conducted tracks using our police dogs service with negative results."

After an investigation, police say they were not able to confirm the accuracy of the original report and are currently following up with the original complainant.

"We do not feel [the incident] was quite as reported and that's pretty much where we are at with the investigation," said Savinkoff.

At this moment, RCMP does not believe there is any ongoing risk to the public's safety regarding the situation.
