Fort Saskatchewan RCMP has arrested an Edmonton man for allegedly stealing a vehicle and forging documents.

On March 8, police say they observed a vehicle leave a known residence in downtown Fort Saskatchewan. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle and RCMP officers reported that they saw evidence that the vehicle's VIN numbers had been tampered with.

The RCMP says that further investigation into the matter revealed that the vehicle had been stolen out of Edmonton and then fraudulently registered in the suspect's name.

Police also allege to have found bear spray in the driver's door.

As a result of the investigation, 52-year-old Corey Sarafinchan was charged with the following:

  • Possession of stolen property over $5000
  • Fraud over $5000
  • VIN Tampering
  • Possessing or uttering forged documents (x4)

Sarafinchan was taken into custody for a hearing and eventually released. He is scheduled to appear in a provincial court next month.
