Poor air quality alert hits region

A special air quality statement has been sent out for the region. 

According to The Weather Network, there seems to be a build-up of pollutants on the surface that is leading to poor air quality. 

The following areas have been affected: 

• Fort Saskatchewan
• Sturgeon County
• Redwater
• Lamont County
• Bruderheim
• Gibbons
• Bon Accord
• Namao
• Northern Strathcona County

People could experience an increase in coughing, throat irritation, headaches, and shortness of breath if they spend time outdoors. 

This poor air quality could last throughout the week with the worst of it happening in the afternoon and evenings.
