The Province has delayed implementing a new funding model for public education in Manitoba, but that isn't stopping Border Land School Division (BLSD) trustees from preparing for when the day does come.
Education and Early Childhood Learning Minister Wayne Ewasko stated last month that work continues on the development of a new education funding model, with one-to-one consultations planned with each school division post-budget.
In the meantime, the BLSD Board is bracing itself for the unknowns of what the budget process will look like when the change is eventually made, and has launched a future budget planning survey.
"Right now with the budgets they way they've been, we've been staying pretty status quo," said Board Chair, Patty Wiebe. "Up until now, we've cut pretty much everywhere we can except in the classroom. At this point, if we do have to make any cuts, it's going to impact student learning."
If that's the case, Wiebe says the Board wants to know what the public holds dear when it comes to the education being offered in the Division and what things could be reduced if a decision had to be made.
The survey, which contains three questions, will be sent to households of all BLSD students. It is also posted to the Divison's web site for the remaining public to fill out.
