An impaired driver reportedly collided with the Sherwood Park Arena during a Crusaders playoff game earlier this month.

On March 11, at about 7:40 p.m., Strathcona County RCMP say they received a report about a vehicle crashing into the east side of the building.

"The lone female driver of the vehicle did not sustain any injuries," said Constable Chantelle Kelly.

There were about 869 people inside the building watching the hockey game at the time of the crash. No injuries to bystanders were reported.

RCMP say they arrested a woman for impaired driving before releasing her on an appearance order.

Strathcona County's Sherri-Dawn Annett says the incident caused significant damage to the building.

"The repairs to the damage caused by a vehicle colliding into the Sherwood Park Arena building are estimated to be around $40,000.”

Repairs are expected to be completed sometime in the summer and events happening inside the arena will not be affected.

Police say the woman charged is scheduled to appear in provincial court next month.
