The Capital Junior Hockey League (CJHL) championship could be calling Sherwood Park home soon.

The Sherwood Park Knights are currently in the midst of the championship series against the St. Albert Merchants, with the Knights holding a decisive 2-0 lead in the best-of-seven series.

It was a long road for the Knights to get to this point. After finishing atop the East Division, and second in the league behind the Merchants, the team was able to secure a bye past the first round.

In the second round, they dispatched the Strathcona Bruins in a clean three-game sweep with a convincing 14-5 victory in the series clincher.

They then headed to North Edmonton for a semi-final date with the Red Wings. Edmonton would stave off elimination once with an overtime victory in game three, but the Knights eventually prevailed in game four to advance to the finals.

Their final series against St. Albert is only fitting. The two teams were far and away the best teams all season in the league with a few exciting matchups along the way.

The season series began in September with the Knights drawing first blood in a 4-2 victory. The Merchants then got their revenge in January with a 5-1 win of their own.

So far, in this final series, the Sherwood Park Knights have been in the driver's seat. They opened up game one with a 3-1 victory and then took game two in overtime by a score of 3-2.

Game three is set to go in St. Albert tonight with puck drop set for 8 p.m. at Jarome Iginla Arena.

A win by the Knights would put them on the edge of glory and make Sunday's (Mar. 26) game four in Sherwood Park a potential championship clincher.
