KidSport Fort Saskatchewan has raised its funding limit for athletes entering its program.

KidSport is a program that allows children in need to play sports that would otherwise be too expensive through the costs of sports registration fees and equipment.

Roger Ethier, president of the Fort Saskatchewan branch, says they've raised their threshold from $400 to $500.

"We hadn't done an increase in a while, so we felt it was time," said Ethier. "With the increasing costs of everything with inflation and everything, we felt the time was right."

Ethier adds that this extra money helps give kids a choice in what sport they'd like to pursue.

"It really depends on the sport. If you're talking about hockey, $100 doesn't go too far, but if you're talking football, soccer, or baseball, it can go a long way. Regardless, $100 makes a big difference no matter what."

So far, around 80 children in Fort Saskatchewan use the KidSport program to help pay for their equipment and fees.

KidSport is also looking for two new members on their board of directors. Specifically, they're looking for a secretary and applications coordinator.

"We're just looking for able bodies who want to be a part of the board. If they have a special skill, that's great."

Those interested in joining the KidSport board of directors can contact them through their website.
