This past weekend was a busy one for the curling ice in Kindersley.
A rec hockey tournament had the local arena's ice pads occupied, but it was the curling rink at centre of the stage this weekend with both the Men's and Women's Curling Club Provincial Championships taking place at the West Central Events Centre through the Kindersley Curling Club.
The opening draw took place on Thursday morning, as twenty men’s and seven women’s teams came in from across the province to compete.
Local teams in play saw the Kindersley Curling Club represented by Team Kyle Wiebe, and Team Ashley Ritchie. Team Ritchie was the only local team in attendance for women's play, but West Central was represented well out of the men's side with Team St. John out of Rosetown, and Team Fell out of Unity joining the home-based Team Wiebe.
With so many teams competing on the men's side, it was guaranteed to be a battle. That good competition led to Kindersley's Team Wiebe dropping all three of their games played, and though Unity's Team Fell started out hot with two wins, three straight conceded games ended their tournament.
That left Team St. John as the only local team with a chance at the championship. The Rosetown based rink carried a 4-2 record into the Sunday morning draw against Team Shutra for a spot in the finals. It was a back and forth game that eventually saw Team St. John give up a score in the 9th to end their tournament and send Team Shutra into the championship against Team Criton:
