The Fort Saskatchewan RCMP will be in attendance for the funeral of the two fallen EPS officers at Rogers Place on Monday (Mar. 27) afternoon.

The detachment will send 10 of their own to pay respects to constables Brett Ryan and Travis Jordan, who lost their lives in the line of duty while responding to a domestic call in Edmonton earlier this month.

"Today we are sending 10 members, complete in red serge, who will be marching in the procession along with the other police services and first responders to Rogers Place to attend the funerals of the two fallen EPS members," said Barry LaRocque, the Fort Saskatchewan RCMP detachment commander.

The procession is slated to start at 11:45 a.m. at the Alberta legislature building in downtown Edmonton as they make their way to Rogers Place for the funeral.

Attendance at the funeral will be limited to family, special guests, EPS members and members of law enforcement, emergency services and military communities. A public viewing of the funeral will be held in the Ice District Plaza right outside of the arena as well as online through a live stream

LaRocque says it is important for the RCMP to be there to support their neighbours during such difficult times.

"By our members attending the funeral today, they will be showing respect to the fallen police offers and support to their families and the Edmonton Police Service."

"Attendance today strengthens the comradery that is also present in the Fort Saskatchewan detachment in conjunction with the police services and first responders from around the area, province, and nationwide."

The families of both constables put out statements ahead of the funeral thanking the community for its support:

"We want to take this opportunity to express our sincere appreciation to the public for the extraordinary lengths you have gone to support our family, and Travis' EPS family, in this time of great tragedy," said the Jordan family.

Jordan was 35 and served with EPS for just over eight years.

"We have had the incredible experience of witnessing the extraordinary support a city can provide a family in their most significant time of need. Thank you for your selflessness expressed through thoughtful words, blue ribbons, touching tributes, acts of kindness, and much more," wrote the Ryan family.

Ryan was 30 and served just over five years with EPS.

Both families are asking the public to respect their privacy in the coming days and weeks.

More information on the funeral can be found on the EPS website.
