The city of Fort Saskatchewan gave a slew of updates on some of the construction projects happening around the city.

From the Highway 15 pedestrian bridge across the North Saskatchewan River to extensive work being done on Veteran's Way, there is a lot of construction that residents can expect in 2023.

Here is a look at the updates:

Highway 15 pedestrian bridge:

Paving of the trails underneath the bridge is expected to happen any time now, with a Spring 2023 completion date. Work to remediate the construction area in Fort Centre Park is also expected to get done within the next few months.

Trail closures were in effect over the winter and continue to be through the spring as well.

JRC modernization project:

The modernization of the JRC continues to tick along at a steady pace. As of now, both an architect and a construction manager have been selected to oversee the project.

They are currently in the design phase and expect to provide more information once the construction budget is approved.

Southfort Meadows Park amenity:

Users of Southfort Meadows Park continue to anxiously await a brand-new outdoor rink to be built in the park.

The rink will be open year-round for hockey in the winter and basketball in the summer, with lights turning on each night.

A 1200 square feet support building is also in the works to provide a space for people to change their skates or warm up. Public washrooms that are open year-round will also be included in the building.

Work is moving along nicely and is expected to wrap up this summer.

Veteran's Way widening:

Work on widening the Veteran's Way Corridor from Highway 15 and 21 intersections to 101 Street is set to start in the coming months.

A pedestrian crossing at Highway 15 and 21 intersections will also be installed as part of the work.

The detailed design of the project has been completed and the tender for construction will be closing in April.

Work will begin in May.

The city explains that this project, once completed, will increase the number of vehicle lanes and build a below-grade pedestrian crossing.
