Strathcona County is making it easier than ever to host neighbourhood gatherings.

The county announced that applications for community grants opened up on Friday (Mar. 31) and will be accepted until May 1.

"A safe, supported and connected community is the foundation of the Strathcona County Social Framework," the county said in a release.

"Strathcona County’s grant funding supports residents and groups who are interested in community safety and well-being, have a passion for leading community building gatherings and projects, and who want to make a difference."

There will be two different types of grants that residents can apply for.

Community Connection grants of $425 will be available for residents who plan on hosting neighbourhood events or activities that promote social connection, inclusion, and well-being in the county.

This would pertain to events such as street concerts, scavenger hunts, and neighbourhood barbecues.

The heftier Community Change grants can go up to $2000 and are aimed toward community groups and non-profit organizations hosting projects that create positive social change within the county.

A total of 10 projects took advantage of Community Change grants last year, which included developing a community garden, emergency preparedness kits, and even a campaign to demonstrate the best practices for kids at crosswalks and riding bikes.
