The 4th Annual Fire in the Kitchen competition is happening in Saskatoon on April 1st.
Four firefighters from Moose Jaw are taking part in the competition. Our Burn representative will also be at the event.
Brett Kowalyk from the Moose Jaw Firefighters Association thinks it will be fun to watch how Moose Jaw does in the competition.
"Moose Jaw has not won [this event before], so we're hoping to make this the year," Kowalyk remarked.
Fire in the kitchen is a three-course meal competition. If you make a mistake while cooking such as improper sanitation or not getting your dish out in time, other people on your team have to perform drills. Drills include dummy drags or starting an IV.
"This year, they have a medieval theme for the entire event, but for the cooking, it's pretty wide open," Kowalyk commented. "I think ours is going to be a fairly straightforward meal, with a bit of flair to it."
The competition is a fundraiser for the Saskatchewan Burn Fund. Money raised from the event will stay in the province and be used to help burn victims or offer burn-specific training for nurses and doctors across the province. Since being established, Saskatchewan Professional Firefighters and Paramedics Burn Fund has been known for its unparalleled commitment to advancing burn care within the province of Saskatchewan.
The winning team earns bragging rights and the title of "Best Firefighter Chefs in Saskatchewan."
