The Sherwood Park Easter egg hunt is returning for its fourth year this weekend.
The free event will take place on Saturday (Apr. 8) with families driving around the city searching for the eggs, while a toonie carnival takes place at 37 Athabascan Avenue.
Egg hunting will be an all-day event that will run from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. while the toonie carnival will be open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Corey McEwen, the director of the event, says everyone is sure to have a good time.
"Everyone will walk away with a small prize, but there is a chance to win a large prize like a Nintendo Switch," said McEwen. "Draw prizes will consist of anything from a $50 gift card to $500."
Egg hunting will still be in the drive-around format with hints being posted on the event's Facebook page. Once you find an egg you will have to scan its QR code and submit a photo of you with the egg.
Be sure to be on the lookout for some extra secret bonus eggs as well.
"We always have some bonus eggs that I don't disclose where they are," said McEwen.
The event will be partnering up with the Strathcona County food bank, collecting donations at the toonie carnival.
"This will be the second year [we've teamed up with the food bank]," said McEwen. "They want a mix of non-perishable items and some funds to help out with getting more fresh produce and meat."
The expectation is that this year's event will be its most popular yet. McEwen is glad people have latched onto an idea he and his kids came up with back in 2020.
"Every year I get messages about helping families through this event," said McEwan. "It's been so fun to do each year."
"It takes a lot of work, a lot of volunteers, but it's so rewarding for the community."
